Last week, I found myself checking out the yummy soup selection at Central Market. I had just opened the kettle labeled “Rustic Chicken Noodle.” Curious, I overheard a lady beside me question aloud, “How could that be rustic?” Glancing at the soup, I remarked, “Well, it doesn’t look so bad.” She nodded and announced, “That’s the soup I want!”
As I chose my soup and prepared to leave, she thanked me for my help choosing her soup. I told her it was my pleasure, and she left with her son who appeared to be about my age. I moved on to the takeaway section and was exploring salads and juices when she passed by once more. This time, she paused to express her thanks again for the soup recommendation.
Noticing the tattoos peeking from beneath the sleeve of my shirt, she gently traced one with her thumb. I lifted my sleeve, revealing my collection of passport stamps and travel emblems. Fascinated, she commented, “Wow, you get around.” Chuckling, I replied, “I sure do,” remembering the adventures behind each tattoo.
Before parting ways, we made eye contact and wished each other a good weekend. As I left, my heart was full. I am reminded that a simple connection can have a profound effect.
Sometimes, in the rush of daily life, it’s easy to overlook the presence of others and to ignore the power of connection. There is value in reaching out and engaging with those around us, even if the interaction is brief. Whether with familiar faces or strangers, let’s remember to embrace these connections. A simple conversation can brighten our days and enrich our lives.
