Vesuvio – Carmel, CA

Our last night in Carmel we ventured out to Little Napoli.  Unfortunately, we did not have reservations. The hostess suggested we try one of their other restuarants, Vesuvio. We drove to Vesuvio and were seated quickly. The interior was cool and dark.  We started with the Pepe’s Famous Garlic Bread with marinara sauce (no pic). It was not all that impressive. No salt and a little on the burnt side. The marinara was very fresh and well-seasoned. Too bad there wasn’t enough to make the bread better.  Next, we ordered the meatball lollipops. The taste of the meatballs nice. They were moist and tender and they were standing in the great marinara.

Daughter ordered the melon and prosciutto. This is one of our favorite appetizers and put smiles on our faces. The melon was ripe and sweet and the prosciutto was just salty enough to balance out the melon without being too gamey.

I ordered the margherita pizza. Serious goodness. This place knows how to make a sauce. Though it could’ve had a little more basil. Mother ordered the same pizza but added the soppressata salami. She thought the soppressata was not spicy enough.

Daughter ordered the seafood risotto special. It was very good. The shrimp and scallops were cooked just right and the sauce was tangy.
