I recently tried a new lunch place called BlueGreen Canteen. It is located off of Denton Drive near Love Field Airport and open Monday – Friday from from 10 am to 3 pm. The decor is bright, clean and inviting. When I walked in I was greeted by a sparkling case full of homemade pies, cupcakes and pastries. I knew immediately that this was NOT your ordinary lunch spot. All the savories and sweets are made in house. So let's get to the grub shall we?
Mahi Banh Mi: It was almost too pretty to eat…almost. The foundation is a piece of seasoned mahi, served on a bun slathered with chipotle remoulade, pickled veggies and cilantro. The fish was moist and the pickled veggies were not overpowering. Oh, and those chips…homemade.
Pig and Fig Sandwich: Holy moly this sandwich!!! It was full of tender pulled pork, a fig bourbon jam, red pepper spread sandwiched in between two slices of ciabatta. Sweet, spicy, smoky!
Grilled Brie Sandwich: Creamy, gooey melted brie, cranberry relish and spinach on grilled cranberry walnut bread. SHUT. THE. FRONT. DOOR. I will never eat a grilled cheese again. I am ruined.
Chicken Tinga Taco: braised, chipotle seasoned chicken, queso fresco and avocado lime aioli on corn tortillas. You know I like a good taco. THIS was a good taco. Bluegreen Canteen also has a wonderful array of salsas to choose from including: salsa verde, salsa roja and mango habanero.
On the sweeter side of things I sampled some of their desserts and was sorry I hadn't saved more room. My favorite was the Coconut Key Lime Pie, but let's be honest I would eat them all again.

From the moment I walked into to BlueGreen Canteen I was in heaven. Jenni, Harry, Scott, Chef Ryan Jungman and the rest of the folks take amazing care and pride in what they do and it shows. In addition to the restaurant they do catering through Texas Catering. There is space in the current location for parties and tastings as well. I wish them the best of luck…though I doubt they will need it.
