I was craving some BBQ, so on a whim I phoned my mother and asked her to join me for a late lunch at Pecan Lodge. Being a foodie herself, my mother jumped on the web to read about PL. As soon as she got in the car she told me that I needed a back-up restaurant because she read the lines were long. Well, luck was on our side! After two trips around the block we parked right out front and walked right in and ordered. NOW, that is food karma.
My mother ordered the two meat plate with ribs and brisket with a side of cole slaw and okra. She loved the ribs. They were tender and smoky and BIG. The okra was crispy but not greasy. We also shared Aunt Polly’s Banana Pudding. Wow, it was great. Next time we won’t be sharing.
I ordered a perfectly made chopped brisket sandwich. It was cooked just the way I like it. The brisket was smoky, with just enough fat for yummy goodness. The meat was served on a fresh bun with rich, dark sauce. The collards were amazing. I don’t know what the secret ingredient is but they were wonderfully sweet with a spicy bite.
I am so glad that the owners, Diane and Justin, quit their jobs and started Pecan Lodge. This food is proper BBQ, not that impotent grub you get at other places. You can taste the family tradition in each bite.
Until next time…have fun and eat it up!
